Introduction

The Schneider Electric Automation Design Center in Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (SEADS) in the activity is one of the leading Vietnamese hi-tech laboratory and center for knowledge acquisition in using modern open technologies to create competitive industrial automation systems and special-purpose control systems.

Activities

The basic task of the SEADC is industrial and customer training, so the Center plays the role as a training center. The main business objective of the training center is to provide its audience with the comprehensive knowledge in the specified directions and to acquaint them with the techniques of construction of the distributed multilevel or computer systems in industrial automation based on the open international standards and technologies.

The important tasks of the Schneider Electric R&D Center are research on problems and issues appearing by industrial reality.

The laboratory resource with the computer network, various types of PLCs, industrial networks, and software providing by Schneider Electric Corp., the technical documents and manuals, the training literature, individual approach to appropriate customer and flexible discounts for his training must allow him to obtain:

  • Knowledge of using separate components (Vijeo Citect, Vijeo Designer, Unity Pro, etc.) of automation system and also methodology for building integrated distributed systems;
  • Knowledge of modern international standards in the industrial automation (Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, CANopen, AS-I, etc.) for building open process control systems;
  • Skill of working over the draft projects of throughout enterprise automation system;
  • Representation about the current state of hardware, software and development tools in the industrial automation market;
  • Skill of making competent decisions on choosing right development tools for automation system.

Laboratory

 

The structure of the SEADC is based on the typical hierarchical information architecture as shown in figure 2. The architecture consists of:

    • Field bus level: sensors/actuators, sensors/actuators network (Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, CANopen, AS-i);
    • Automatic control level: PLCs and PLC network (Zelio, Twido, Premium);
    • Servers level: I/O servers, Alarm sever, Trend server, Report Server and DHCP server;
    • Supervision level: SCADA stations (Vijeo Citect clients)

    The Center provides well-equipped classes (figure 5, 6) with participation of the qualified teacher from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Polytechnique) and specialists from Schneider Electric.

    Each listener has an individual workplace and a necessary set of hardware (controllers and mechanisms).

    Presence of modern computer park, multimedia projectors, and set of teaching materials allows use productively the training time as much as possible.

    The training groups can meet the experts of the leading companies. The “round tables” allows to fasten new acquaintances and to solve the problems directly beyond of the training courses.

     

    Center location

    The SEADC is located in room 109 buiding B3 with 100 m2 in the campus 268 Ly Thuong Kiet, 10 District, Ho Chi Minh City.

    Training form

    The SEADC offers several training forms:

    • Traditional group training – every group up to 12 individuals;
    • Training for one company employees - special curriculum;
    • Training at the customer site. In this case, the SEADC takes into account the wishes of the customer as much as possible.

    Training topics

    The SEADC offers training courses including PLCs and development tools (software) for building both general-purpose and special-purpose modern distributed control systems. By this time, the specialists of industrial automation have studied the courses in the Center and gained knowledge in the following areas:

    • Automation systems hardware for industrial, scientific and special applications;
    • Industrial networks for distributed systems;
    • Development systems for programming the industrial controllers (TwidoSuite, Unity Pro);
    • Development and use of HMI based on SCADA systems of Schneider Electric (Vijeo Citect, Vijeo Designer);
    • Use of open standards for integration of hardware and software components.

    The high professional level of the trainers, good technical base of the Center, business-like and friendly atmosphere serve as a sound foundation for receiving the high-quality knowledge of new technologies.
